Advanced Compassion Symbols

How to Use Karuna Reiki Symbols

Karuna Reiki is not traditional Usui Reiki. It is an advanced system developed by William Lee Rand. 'Karuna' means compassionate action.

The system has eight symbols. Each has a specific purpose: grounding, clearing, healing the heart, compassion, transformation, oneness, peace.

Karuna Reiki symbols are taught only to those who have received Karuna Reiki attunement (typically after Usui Reiki Master level). The 8 symbols include: Zonar (grounding and protection), Halu (clearing negative energies), Harth (healing the heart), Rama (compassion and love), Kriya (transformation and releasing), Om (connection to divine), Shanti (peace), and others depending on version. To use them, activate with intention, draw or visualize the symbol, and apply to yourself or others. Like Usui symbols, they work through intention and attunement. This guide is for attuned Karuna practitioners only.

The Compassion System

Understanding Karuna Reiki Symbols

Karuna Reiki is an advanced system from William Lee Rand's ICRT. It is not a replacement for Usui Reiki. It is an expansion.

The symbols focus on compassion, transformation, and deep healing. They are taught only to those who have received Karuna attunement.

If you have not received Karuna attunement, the symbols will not work for you. They require their own attunement, separate from Usui.

The Karuna Reiki Symbols

Names and primary uses of the eight symbols.

  • Zonar: Grounding and protection. Use at the beginning of sessions. Similar to Cho Ku Rei but with a different energy.
  • Halu: Clearing negative energies. Use to clear a space, an object, or a person's energy field.
  • Harth: Healing the heart. Use for emotional wounds, grief, heartbreak, and opening to love.
  • Rama: Compassion and love. Use to increase compassion for self and others. Forgiving yourself and others.
  • Kriya: Transformation and releasing. Use to release old patterns, habits, and karma. For deep transformation.
  • Om: Connection to the divine. Use for spiritual connection, meditation, and oneness.
  • Shanti: Peace. Use for calming the mind, reducing anxiety, and bringing peace to situations.
  • Additional symbols: Depending on the version, there may be other symbols (e.g., Gnosa, Iava).

Before You Use Karuna Symbols

You Must Receive Karuna Attunement First

Karuna Reiki symbols are not available to everyone. You must receive a Karuna Reiki attunement from a qualified Karuna Reiki master.

Typically, you need to be a Usui Reiki Master first. Then you can take Karuna Reiki training.

Without Karuna attunement, the symbols will not work. They are just drawings.

If you are interested in Karuna Reiki, find a qualified ICRT teacher. Do not try to use the symbols without proper training.

What Karuna Practitioners Say

Karuna symbols deepened my practice. They helped me work with compassion in a way I had not experienced before. But they are not for everyone. They are advanced tools. Master Usui first. Then explore Karuna if you feel called.

Karuna Reiki is a beautiful expansion. But it is not necessary. Traditional Usui Reiki is complete. If you feel called to Karuna, pursue it. If not, do not worry. Usui is enough.

Do not use Karuna symbols without proper attunement. Respect the tradition. Get proper training.

Key takeaways

  • Karuna Reiki symbols require separate Karuna attunement (not just Usui attunement).
  • The 8 symbols include Zonar (grounding), Halu (clearing), Harth (heart), Rama (compassion), Kriya (transformation), Om (connection), Shanti (peace).
  • Use them similarly to Usui symbols: activate with intention, draw or visualize, apply to target.
  • Karuna Reiki is an advanced system, not a replacement for Usui Reiki.
  • You do not need Karuna symbols for effective Reiki practice.
  • Only use these symbols if you have received Karuna attunement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Usui Reiki before Karuna?

Typically, yes. Most Karuna training requires Usui Reiki Master level first.

Can I use Karuna symbols without attunement?

No. Karuna symbols require Karuna attunement. Without it, they are just drawings.

Are Karuna symbols more powerful than Usui symbols?

Not 'more powerful.' Different. They focus on compassion and transformation. Some practitioners prefer them. Others prefer Usui.

Where can I learn Karuna Reiki?

The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) offers Karuna training. Find an ICRT-certified teacher.

Is Karuna Reiki recognized by traditional Usui practitioners?

Not usually. Karuna Reiki is a modern system. Traditional Usui practitioners may not recognize it. It is valid within its own lineage.
